A Short trip to Devithan by Natasha Shrestha
Last Tuesday 23rd June we students of class 10 ‘B’ along
with our class teacher Mr Umesh Timalsina went for a
short trip to Devithan Temple, located on the hill top of
Dhulikhel. After having our lunch, we started our journey
walking through a dusty road and watching the
stunning and panoramic view of hills and ancient village
settlements. After walking about one hour we reached
our destination. We were lucky that day because the
temperature was not scorching hot, and the view was
truly spectacular. The area was occupied by the Nepal
Army and they have been maintaining the condition of cultural heritage. The other way to Devithan
was from Adda Bazar, where people have to climb more than 1000 steps, but we chose the
shortest but bumpy way to Devithan from our school. We had a great experience to visit such a
place of religious importance that contained the renowned statue of DEVI.

Presentation on Mountaineering and Climbing by Rupesh Chaudhari and Sahil Shrestha:
On 10th June, Wednesday, class 8, 9, and 10 along with 8 teachers went to the KU auditorium to
learn about mountaineering and climbing. Mountaineering is a sport, hobby or profession of
walking, hiking, backpacking and climbing mountains. Our presenter was veteran climber Mr.
Pemba Galje Sherpa, who has already climbed Mt. Everest six times and Mt. K2 once. He received
many National and international awards. He was also awarded with the National Geography Adventure
award of 2008. He was one of the members of the team of 18 members to conquer Mt.
K2. Many members of the team were trapped at the summit at 27000 ft. On the route of bottleneck.
He chose to descend the bottleneck without oxygen. He reached the summit and could save
two of his team mates. He has received many other domestic awards and prizes. The presentation
lasted about two hours. He described about the status of mountaineering in Nepal. He showed us
many photographs on ice climbing and rock climbing in Nepal. He also described about the requirement
for those climbing. He briefly talked about the commercial expenditure to Mt. Everest
which is supposed to be most expensive climb. He introduced us to many technical terms used in
mountaineering and climbing. He displayed much equipment required for climbing. We gained
enough knowledge from Pemba Galje Sherpa. Many of our friends were inspired by him to climb.
It’s really difficult to climb up the Mt. Everest although it seems to be easy. It was a good program
and we all hope that such programs should be conducted in the coming future.
